Design Principles
We at Plan It Green Landscape Architecture provide plans and services that are sensitive to and respectful of the environment. Here are some of the ecological planning and design principles that we strive for:
Conservation: Slow Down Material Consumption. Land use and site planning which conserves and promotes diverse, healthy, native ecosystems.
Regeneration: Repair and Renew. Sustainable design and development which recycles existing resources, minimizing environmental impact.
Stewardship: Care of the Land and All Its Inhabitants. Low-impact development management of the land for the benefit of all its inhabitants.
Ecological Design Goals
• Minimize destructive environmental impact
• Ensure the design: respects species diversity, minimizes resource depletion, preserves water cycle and maintains habitat quality
• Respond to the particulars of place: soils, vegetation, animals, climate, topo, water
We often provide Designs with some of the following
elements:
- Dispersed storm water infiltration, bio-swales
- Native plant material
- Local materials to minimize transportation costs and stay "local"
- Porous pavements, minimize impervious surfaces
- Lawn alternatives
- Low maintenance landscape design
- Recycle materials
- Use low tech materials
- Creative grading to minimize cut and fill and erosion
